“Green” may be the buzzword of the past decade in most places, but in Nevada, it seems the “ting-tinging” of hundreds of thousands of slot machines has managed to largely drown it out. That is to say, many Nevada residents have “green” intentions—from chefs to artists to charities to social networks—it’s just that they haven’t been heard.
One publication is setting out to provide that missing voice. Green Living Nevada, the brainchild of Las Vegan, Justin Krosta, has yet to release its premiere issue in print, but is already garnering an impressive online presence.
“When we launched the website earlier this summer, we didn’t know what kind of response to expect,” said Krosta. “We had been working the underground green scene and making some good connections, but the buzz is even bigger than we had hoped. It’s going to make the magazine launch that much more exciting.”
Already posted online are numerous articles featuring the many green initiatives going on in communities across the state. From Greener Vegas’ charitable efforts in cleaning up after conventions to individuals installing wind turbines in their own yards, to the naïve “Green Virgin’s” adventures, there is a connected movement slowly gaining momentum, and now, gaining exposure.
In the very near future, the website also plans to host a green job board and carry green commerce. Currently, visitors can view and add to a green events calendar.
“We’re aware that we’re not going to have an overnight impact, but hopefully we can bring to light those things that we—everyday, busy, realistic people—can do and those practices we can implement in an effort to live healthier, more productive and less wasteful lives,” said Krosta.
If the steady flow of visitors on www.greenlivingnevada.com and positive comments on Twitter and Facebook are any indication, Green Living Nevada is beginning to expose a green”ish” layer the public may not have admitted to before.
With the help of a seasoned group of contributors, including writers and graphic artists, Green Living Nevada Magazine will be in print and available at over 30 newsstands across Nevada this fall. Ready or not.
Green Living Nevada is the Premier Magazine Where Green Meets Life. It aspires to be an open forum, both in print and online, for any and everyone interested in contributing their talents and ideas. We give “green” no definition and no boundaries. Let’s just be better. Together. www.greenlivingnevada.com
